When I left the UK to live in Barcelona back in 2002 I had to give up all of my British benefits and go it solo financially. However, the European Court of Justice decided on 18 October 2007 that certain disability and carers benefits are sickness benefits and may be paid to people who leave Great Britain to live elsewhere in the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland.
