Interview on Wisconsin Public Radio
I’ve just finished an interview with regards to inclusive travel for people with disabilities and my new company accessible.travel on Wisconsin Public Radio on their show “Here on Earth” with Scott Rains. Mother given parking ticket “for reviving her severely disabled son”
A mother who says she stopped her car on a pavement to revive her profoundly disabled son, was given a £100 parking ticket.

Penny Batkin, 40, says that Richmond Council has refused to back down over the fine despite receiving a letter of explanation from her, supported by her GP.
She says she was taking her son, Freddie, 4, to the Shooting Star children’s hospice in Hampton when he began gasping for breath and turning blue.

accessible.travel, the world’s first instant hotel booking engine for People with Disabilities (PwDs) was launched last month by Craig Grimes, Director, accessible.travel. Talking about the new initiative, Craig Grimes told TravelBiz Monitor, “The booking engine is different in terms of data provided regarding access and facilities for People with Disabilities at the hotels listed on the site. This has never been done before in a commercial way along with facility of instant booking.”

One man helps the disabled see the world
A profile about the work of Craig Grimes, Director of accessible.travel, in the Christian Science Monitor.
Matagalpa, Nicaragua - The winding turns, potholes, open sewers, and stray dogs make the streets of this northern Nicaraguan town tough to negotiate – let alone in a wheelchair.
“It’s the worst ever, without a doubt,” says Craig Grimes, with a laugh, as he grasps a signpost to pull his wheelchair up onto a street curb. “A lot of people in Matagalpa don’t know how to use their wheelchairs, because no one has ever taught them. I’ve been showing people in wheelchairs how to get around their own city, and they’ve lived here their whole lives.”

Cycling for People with Disabilities in Berekely
Cast your memory back to the age of 5 or 6, when your adult helper let go and you wobbled off on your first solo bicycle ride.
What was that incredible feeling?
Freedom.
But what if that freedom was never available to you?
A woman named Meida recently contacted the Adaptive Cycling Center at Berkeley’s Aquatic Park. The weathered wooden building is known to regulars as the BORP bike house, as in the Bay Area Outreach & Recreation Program. Meida explained that she was born without arms and wanted to ride a bike. She had ridden tandem but hoped to ride alone. She dreamed of someday riding across the Golden Gate Bridge.

Wheelchair Athlete’s Back Flip Lands Him in Record Book
With the top of his head mere inches above the lip of a jump, Aaron Fotheringham soars into the Guinness World Book of Records by performing a back flip in his wheelchair at Doc Romeo skate park on Saturday.
Aaron Fotheringham went into the record books as a pioneer in wheelchair sports Saturday.
Guinness World Records recorded the Northwest Las Vegas resident, in front of a crowd of more than 300 at Doc Romeo Park, as the first to complete a back flip in a wheelchair.
“It feels awesome to get this,” said Fotheringham, 16, who performed the flip before the Vegas AmJam skatepark competition.

Escuelas cerradas para mayoría de sordos del país
Nicaragua:
“La mayoría de sordos del país sigue sin ir a la escuela. Según datos de la Asociación Nacional de Sordos de Nicaragua (Ansnic) sólo un poco más del 20.8 por ciento de los que carecen de capacidad auditiva asiste a clases.
Es decir que de las 12 mil personas que no oyen en Nicaragua, sólo 2,500 logra estudiar. “La mayoría no va la escuela porque el colegio les queda largo de sus comunidades y porque no hay suficientes instructores del lenguaje de señas”, explica Sandra López, de Ansnic y de la Asociación de Intérpretes del Lenguaje de Señas de Nicaragua.”
